The poisoned tissue spread throughout her jaw until it bled so profusely that she choked on her own blood and died. The women who remained at the factory began to experience symptoms of radiation poisoning. ![]() Administrators at US Radium were aware of this but ignored it for the sake of profits. The many job openings at the factory garnered excitement in the town, and the young women eagerly recruited their siblings, family, and friends to join, as the work was well-paid and more pleasant than most other jobs available to women of their social class at the time. Along with other immigrant girls, she was instructed to paint watch dials with luminescent paint for use by soldiers. Moore highlights a few key figures, including Katherine Schaub, a teenager who was hired to work at Radium Luminous Materials Corporation during World War I. Part 1 describes the early, happy days of radium dial production. The book is a cautionary tale about the overly optimistic narratives of invention and rapid commercialization that have become commonplace in the modern world, and an indictment of corporate greed and disregard for human life. These women bore the consequences of releasing an untested substance into mass production, sustaining extreme pain, disability, and death from ingesting radium. Moore chronicles the lives of many young female employees of the Radium Luminous Materials Corporation in Newark, New Jersey and Radium Dial in Ottawa, Illinois.

Some schools and college offer courses and degrees specifically for audio post-production (and these can be an excellent introduction), but a degree is not necessary to work in the field. How to get startedĪudio for post-production is like most areas of audio it just an interest in learning and practice to get started. Scheduling/Operations covers the day-to-day needs of the studio including communicating with clients and staff about schedule, session requirements, and technical or personal needs. Sound assistants or machine room operators prep materials and offer tech support to sound editors, mixers, and engineers. After the re-recording mixers adjust for balance (looking at it technically and creatively), there will be a review with the producer, director, picture editor, or other members of the film crew to listen, give notes, and make adjustments. Sound mixers may work alone or in teams with each person focusing on different elements. The mixer adjusts the levels of those sounds together (similar to the job of a live sound mixer or a music mixer). Re-recording mixers combine all the sound elements (dialog, voice-over, sound fx, Foley, and music) into one project. The Foley team covers sounds such as footsteps, cloth movement, eating, touching or handling objects. Supervising Sound Editors (or Sound Supervisors) oversees the sound crew working on a project (sort of like a manager). The sound designer also has to build sounds from scratch for visual effects or creatures that don’t exist. He/she adds background ambience sounds and will embellish sounds like explosions, car engines, or guns. The sound designer has a sound effects library (a catalog of sounds) but also records specialized sounds when needed. Sound fx editors ( sound designers) are the people responsible for non-language sounds. A music editor also coordinates with the composer on a project, delivers all the music to the re-recording mixer, and often attends mixes (as the representative of the music department). ![]() Music editors are responsible for adjusting music edits and finessing placement for music in a scene. He moves quickly off the snap for a man his size, quickly getting into his vertical set and making first contact more often times than not. That playing style reminds me so much of Mitchell Schwartz. ![]() Jones has rare size and length at tackle and he plays to it, effectively using his massive size and record-breaking 89-inch wingspan to keep pass-rushers at a stand still. You can try going through him or around him, but it won’t happen so easily. Jones simply serves as a mountain between pass-rushers and the quarterback. His Playing Style reminds me of Mitchell Schwartz: The projected Mid 1st round pic could replace Wylie and cement the Chiefs Oline as one of the best in the league. Jim Nagy, the executive director of the Senior Bowl and NFL scout for almost two decades, compared Dawand Jones to Orlando Brown Jr.ĭawand Jones has elite size and is surprisingly athletic. Jones basically has the same size of Orlando Brown but is 30 pounds heavier (Brown is 345 pounds). He can stop a rush on impact and plays with terrific power in his hands, delivering one of the most effective punches of any tackle in the class. Jones has proven himself as just a massive man who can dominate in the trenches. He knows he is a long and massive tackle who won’t beat anyone with speed to the edge, so he does a good job of controlling the rush once he makes contact, using grip strength and his brute power to throw off the momentum of a rusher. He also opened plenty of eyes as he broke the Senior Bowl record for widest wingspan of 89-inches. But after showing out at the Senior Bowl and a lot of good impressions in the offseason, Jones has made his case for a late first round pick in this upcoming draft. Not only are his physical traits extraordinary, his skill set in terms of sustaining blocks, hand usage, zone/man blocking, use of leverage, and efficiency are all equally impressive. The 6-foot-8, 375 pound offensive tackle from Indianapolis, Indiana, was thought of as a late second or maybe an early third round pick. Jones is the prototypical right tackle size, length, build, athleticism, strength, and power are all elite. Just like the Harrison article, I’ll explain 3 reasons why Dawand Jones will help the Chiefs? Now we’re here with newly signed Jawaan Taylor who is expect to be the team’s new left tackle, the Chiefs can fulfill their biggest need by adding the 6-8 massive freak in Dawand Jones just like the previous February article suggested. Then our guys started watching his film in January which led to another article in Febuary explaining why the Chiefs should consider drafting Jones. I also made note that if Orlando Brown Jr was not retained, that left tackle would be another glaring need. I made note of Jones in my December article based off the assumption that the Chiefs would let Andrew Wylie walk in free agency. ![]() A deposit of $299 holds your spot for an estimated ship date of October. Priced at $2,499, this is the best price I have ever seen for a full-suspension e-bike with the M620 Bafang Ultra motor. The Sondors Rockstar features internal cable routing, integrated saddle lighting, a remotely operated dropper seat post and fenders/mudguards. Though with a mid-drive setup, top speed is highly dependent on the gear ratio of the bike, so it may be too soon to tell what the Sondors Rockstar’s true top speed will be. On the FREY EX, which sports this same motor but at a higher current limit, I’ve hit speeds of 38 mph (61 km/h) on flat ground. Sondors claims the bike can hit speeds of “28+ mph,” which sounds right for this motor. With 1 kWh of capacity, Sondors claims it should be sufficient for between 40-60 miles (64-96 km) of range on a single charge. The “bespoke forged and machined aluminum alloy frame” houses a 48V 21Ah battery. The Sondors Rockstar features full suspension with 150 mm of rear travel, though the company hasn’t indicated any specifics regarding the exact suspension components. I think maybe the most shocking thing about these bikes is how well they are designed. I should know - I unfortunately destroyed a perfectly good chain with this motor in less than five minutes at Eurobike 2019. The Bafang Ultra is known for sending countless chains and sprockets to an early grave. The motor is a favorite of high-performance e-bike enthusiasts, though its sheer power and torque can be tough on bicycle components. Sondors indicates that they are running 25A controllers, which would limit the motors to around 1,200W - a figure that is still quite powerful for anything with pedals… The new Sondors Rockstar, Sondors LX, and Sondors Cruiser appear to feature the famed Bafang M620 mid-drive motor, also known as the Bafang Ultra, which is known to put out more than 1,500W of power and a stump-pulling 160Nm of torque.
